Registration for next fall (2015-16) preschool year is coming up this month!

We always offer current and past preschool families early registration prior to opening up to the public.  If you have questions or concerns regarding your child's placement for next year, please contact Karin Darragh.

If you have a child with a summer birthday, I would like to conference with you as well.  There is a lot to consider when making the decision to begin the formal education process for your child.

Briefly, our bench marks for Kindergarten entrance include emotional and social development, we want to see our students demonstration emotional control and the important ability to manage positive social interactions with their peers.  Conflict resolution is another important developmental trait.  Most Kindergarten classrooms have one teacher with 18 to 24 students.  One of the most important skills needed is self-control.  This is huge in terms of staying on task, being aware of what is happening and not being distracted.  Self-control is a skill we work on almost everyday in our classes especially the Pre K class.

When talking to Kindergarten through 6th grade teachers, they tell me that self-control along with emotional and social confidence often are the determining factors in school success.  When a student is able to demonstrate these traits, they are able to learn and advance.  A student that is struggling with these issues is not able to focus on academics or learning.

Since every child is unique determining Kindergarten readiness needs to be a thoughtful process taking into account many factors not just birth-dates.

Again, if you have a late spring or summer birthday child, let's get together and evaluate your child's situation.  We want all of our students to move forward with the best possible foundation and maturity that is appropriate for them to continue to love learning and become successful in the future.
